Event Update: 4-H Shooting Sports Indoor Archery Match
A state-wide archery match held in two
locations, Graham and Bay City.
Participants must choose only one location. Following the close of competition
at both locations, scores are compiled to determine final overall results.
Courses of fire include: Standard FITA 9 meter or 18 meter indoor rounds based
on experience level. Equipment classes include: Barebow, Recurve, Compound
Aided, Compound Unaided, and NASP (National Archery in Schools Program). Archers
may compete in up to three equipment classes if they so choose. Registration
for this event is completed online via 4-H
Connect. Any actively enrolled 4-H member is eligible
to participate (with county/club approval).

A New Event...4-H Archery Camp
A new camp will be offered in 2013, the Texas 4-H Archery Camp. The camp will be held at the Texas 4-H Center in Brownwood on January 19-20, 2013. This camp is open to 4-H members age 9 to 18 wanting to improve their shooting knowledge and skills in recurve and compound archery. The camp is also open to certified 4-H archery coaches desiring to learn more about coaching archery, archery equipment, archery games, and improved shooting skills. Youth participants should have beginning or intermediate experience in shooting archery and understand the basic archery safety and range rules and whistle commands. Adult and youth participants must provide their own equipment. Registration on 4-H Connect will open on November 12, 2012 and close on December 16, 2012. Registration is limited to the first 30 youth registrants and the first 10 adult coaches. More details such as registration costs will be posted soon.

Changes to 4-H Shooting Sports Coach and Assistant Coach Eligibility Rules
Due to continuing efforts to best protect the safety and well being of all Texas 4-H Shooting Sports participants, Coach and Assistant Coach Eligibility Rules have been changed.

- To be eligible to be a Certified Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Coach, you must be minimum 21 years of age or older. (Changed from minimum 18 years of age)
- Assistant Coach Certification (formerly titled Youth Assistant Coach Certification) is available to any actively enrolled 4-H member who is 14 years of age or older as of September 1 of the current 4-H year AND any approved Adult Volunteer Leader less than 21 years of age . An Assistant Coach may assist a Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Coach ONLY in the immediate presence of the Certified Coach. Should the Certified Coach be absent for any period of time, regardless how short or long the absence may be, all Shooting Sports activity must cease until the return of the Certified Coach. Assistant Coaches are NOT certified to coach outside the immediate supervision of a Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Coach.

4-H Hunting & Wildlife Coach/Adult Leader Training
The 4-H Hunting & Wildlife Coach/Adult Leader Training listed in the events document published not long ago and announced in a previous post now has scheduled dates for February 2-3, 2013 in College Station. Registration will open on 4-H Connect on December 1, 2012 and close December 30, 2012. Late registration will run from December 31, 2012 to January 6, 2013. Fees for the training will be $50 for regular registration and $75 for late registration. No other Shooting Sports disciplines are offered at this training. Check out the events document for details about the training.
4-H WHEP Practice Contest, Kerrville
The first Practice Contest offered this 4-H year for the Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP) will be held on November 17, 2012 in Kerrville. This practice contest is open to anyone interested in learning more about the program or wanting to practice their learned skills to better prepare for the actual contests offered in the spring and summer. The event is open to youth and adults to participate. The contest will be modified slightly to fit it into one day. Officials will be presented following each contest activity. Registration opens on 4-H Connect on September 24th and closes October 21st.
