1st Annual 4-H Archery Camp is a Success!

The 1st Annual Texas 4-H Archery Camp was held last weekend at the Texas 4-H Center on Lake Brownwood.  This first round of the camp was deemed a huge success with 35 youth and 9 adults participating.  The camp focused on improving shooting knowledge and skills in recurve and compound archery for youth participants.  For adult participants, the focus was on improving skills and knowledge in coaching archery, archery equipment, archery games, and improved shooting skills.

The Texas 4-H Archery Camp is open to any 4-H member with beginning or intermediate experience in shooting archery and understanding of the basic archery safety and range rules.  The camp has limited space available for youth and adult participants.

Plans are currently underway for the 2nd Annual Texas 4-H Archery Camp to be held in 2014.
Dates and registration information will be available later this year.

Mickey Estep and son, Blake.
Special thanks goes out to Mickey Estep, volunteer 4-H archery instructor from Ector County.  The camp would not have be possible without his coordination and the assistance of the staff of volunteers he recruited.  Thanks to all of you who volunteered and made the camp a success!

San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Junior Trap Shoot

San Angelo Inaugural 2013 Junior Trap Shoot

For the first time in San Angelo, Texas FFA and 4H students alike get a chance to post their name on the first line of the record books at one of the largest stock shows in the nation as the "First" San Angelo Trapshooting Champion.   Taking place on Feb 15th, 2013 at the San Angelo Claybird Range (sanangeloclays.com) 12 miles West of San Angelo, TX on HWY 67.   It's watching a focused competitor stand on the field and match his or her skills against their competition.  When these students take the line it is ONE shotgun and ONE well aimed shell that determines a "Hit" or "Lost" claybird.  At the end of 50 claybirds, the competitor with the best score wins.  In an event where the student's talent and skills determines their own success, it is not unusual to see the event's champion using the most basic of competition tools that has been handed down in the family to a younger generation.  Come rain, snow, sleet, or anything short of thunder and lightning,  these shooters will face the elements and stand on station to compete for the very first buckle and  prizes to be awarded at the 2013 San Angelo Junior Trapshoot.

Sponsor money donated to this first event will be conveyed to the contestants as premium prizes to further the growth of shooting sports competition.  If you wish to enter, download the PDF rules and entry forms for this event.  Should you have any questions about sponsorship, rules, or entry,  please email tom@sanangelorodeo.com .
